Google limits free Nano Banana Pro image generation

If you were hoping to have some fun creating images with Google’s new Nano Banana Pro model over the long holiday weekend, there’s some bad news: free usage is now limited. According to a support document spotted by 9to5Google, free users can currently generate only two images per day, down from three previously. Google explains, “Image generation and editing is in high demand. Limits may change frequently and will reset daily.”

It seems that free access to Gemini 3 Pro is also restricted. Non-paying users now receive “basic access — daily limits may change frequently.” When Gemini 3 Pro first rolled out on November 18, free users were allowed five prompts per day, the same as Gemini 2.5 Pro. Paid plans, including Google AI Pro and AI Ultra, remain unaffected, with 100 and 500 prompts per day respectively.

Google isn’t the first company to tighten usage after a popular release. OpenAI, for example, temporarily restricted free access to ChatGPT’s built-in image generator after demand exceeded expectations, before eventually reopening it for free users.
